Our Firm includes Bristol's own Municipal Court Judge (2006-present) and seasoned attorney, Jane Fearing Howlett, who has been practicing law since 1987. Jane attended Providence College, class of 1983, where she earned her undergraduate degree, and the University of Bridgeport, class of 1986, where Jane earned her Juris Doctor.


Jane has been active in the Rhode Island Family Court for the last 30 years, and is the Chairperson of the Family Court Bench Bar Committee and has held the position for the past 16 years. Jane has served on numerous committees within the Rhode Island Family Court, such as the Committee to rewrite the Domestic Rules of Procedure, the Committee to review the Rhode Island Child Support Guidelines and the Permanency Committee.


She is the recipient of the Pro Bono Publico Award in recognition of providing equal access to justice to the poor and the Continuing Service Award from the Rhode Island Bar Association in recognition of her steadfast commitment to the administration of justice to the poor.


Jane is also a Fellow of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation, an honor given to those individuals who foster and maintain the honor and integrity of the profession of law.

Meredith Fearing Howlett, Esq.

Our Firm also includes Chairperson of the New Lawyers Committee for the Rhode Island Bar Association and member of the Rhode Island Bar Association's Nominating Committee and Rhode Island House of Delegates, attorney Meredith Fearing Howlett, who has been practicing law since 2018. Meredith attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, class of 2014, where she earned her undergraduate degree, and Roger Williams University School of Law, class of 2017, where she earned her Juris Doctor.


Throughout law school, Meredith excelled and was awarded the CALI award for Excellence in the Roger Williams University School of Law Criminal Defense Clinic. During her time in the clinic Meredith represented clients who could not afford an attorney in misdemeanor criminal defense matters, without charge. Meredith is a certified Family and Divorce Mediator, having completed 40 hours of training in divorce mediation.


Meredith has successfully represented individuals in divorce, child support, restraining order, and contested custody matters, as well as resolving several contested divorces through the mediation process.


Meredith is a member of several Rhode Island Bar Association Committees, including the Family Court Bench Bar Committee, and her own New Lawyers Committee.
